Awarded 90/100 POINTS: Sam Kim; The Wine Orbit, Feb 2018

Hailing from Castilla from vines that are 45+ years old this is a delicious, intensely rich example of Tempranillo widely grown across Spain that showcases the soft velvet tannins, full body and long aftertaste you can expect of this versitile grape...

"Ripe, fragrant and immediately appealing, this tasty tempranillo (organic) displays dark plum, blueberry, toasted almond and subtle spice aromas on the nose, leading to a juicy palate that is beautifully rounded and smooth. The wine offers silky mouthfeel and fine tannins, finishing long and succulent. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Feb 2018

Tempranillo name is the diminutive of the Spanish temprano, a reference to the fact that it ripens several weeks earlier than most Spanish red grapes. The 2016 vintage of this wine saw grapes were carefully selected mid to the end of September before gentle destemming and crushing. Then 20% of the wine was aged in French oak barrels (1-3 year old) for 4 months.

Mesta's philosophy is to produce wines of great purity, that reflect the unique personality of the land & grape variety through sustainable viticulture/winemaking and we think this vintage of Tempranillo is an excellent example of this...

A vibrant and juicy, unoaked red wine, showing great purity and the typicity of high-altitude Tempranillo, with expressive and well-defined aromas of red berries, rosemary and a touch of liquorice. Bright ruby red colour. Fresh and with an excellent persistence on the palate, with round texture and a satisfyingly dry finish. Very versatile, medium-bodied food wine, excellent with tapas, grilled meat and pasta.

These vineyard's are nestled deep in the land of the 'Mesta', and still passed over by flocks of sheep on their annual migration, in honour of this shepherding heritage we recommend trying this robust Spainish Tempranillo with lamb croquettes brimming with spicy Spanish flavour!
