Description

"87pts... It is ripe and nicely lifted on the nose showing red/black cherry, clove, toasted almond and black olive aromas with subtle mushroom complexity. The palate is juicy and bright, and displays pristine fruit flavours together with elegant savoury undertones. The wine is youthful and charming, and offers lovely drinking. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim Wine Orbit, July 2017

Perfumed aromas of berries and wild flowers, with hints of coffee bean, dried herb and spice.
Ripe flavours of cranberries and red cherries, with a full body and silky texture. Oak spice and coffee notes are balanced by a fresh, lingering finish.

From flowering through to ripening the 2016 growing season was warmer than usual, although the typically cool nights in Marlborough allowed the retention of fresh fruit flavours and bright acidity. The grapes were harvested in the cool of the morning at optimum flavour maturity. Each vineyard parcel was held cool for five days prior to fermentation. Selected yeast strains were used for the primary alcoholic fermentation during which the must was hand plunged six to eight times daily. Once malolactic fermentation was completed the wine was carefully blended and gently prepared for bottling.

The 2016 River Delta Pinot Noir is drinking well now and will continue to impress for the next five years.

Lovely wine with the silky lingering finish it promises. Balanced acidity.
