"Elegant and pristine, the wine shows rockmelon, poached pear, white floral and subtle spice notes on the nose, followed by a succulent palate that's delightfully ripe and smooth. Supple and fleshy with refreshing mouthfeel, making it immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Dec 2021
"Ripe, fruity, varietal and concentrated bouquet with a spicy edge. Youthful, vibrant, spicy and equally fruity on the palate with flavours of white fleshed orchard fruits, pear skin and apple, white pepper and a dried herb, savoury complexity. Acidity and a lees spice along with some fruit tannins add texture and mouthfeel. Fresh, crisp and vibrant. Lovely drinking from 2022 through 2026" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Dec 2021
"Bright, even, pale straw yellow. The nose is bright with soft aromas of pear drop, yellow apple and lychee, along with a whiff of ginger and citrus blossom. Medium-bodied, dry to taste, refreshing nuances of pear, apple, lychee interweave citrus, ginger lingers with citrus floral. The fruit is ripe and rounded, supported by a crisp, juicy acid line. A slightly oily mouthfeel carries fine-textured phenolics, spice and crunch to a clean, refreshing finish. This is a refreshing Pinot Girs with crisp acidity, ripe and concentrated fruit on a textural palate. Match with chicken & pork satay and salt & pepper calamari over the next 3 years. Fruit from established vineyards in Lowburn (48%), Bendigo(21%), Gibbston (16%) and Queensbury(15%). Fermented in neutral oak barrels (64%) and stainless steel (36%) to 14% alc, 3.7 g/l RS. No fining" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Wine Reviews, Dec 2021
This Pinot Gris has delicious nashi pear, lime cordial, elderflower, and sea salt on the nose. An extremely mineral and fragrant wine with bright citrus, pear and apple flavours, tremendous persistence, and an “electric” finish. Made with food pairing in mind, this Pinot Gris is deceptively complex and a good candidate for cellaring.
The 2020-2021 growing season had a relatively warm, dry spring with some late November frosts to fight, followed by good weather at flowering resulting in excellent yields. Some rain events over the Christmas holidays kept us on our toes but autumn returned to warm temperatures allowing consistent ripening. Lower acids at lower brix allowed us to pick early and achieve a dry-style Pinot Gris with perfectly balanced alcohol. We believe the 2021 vintage is one of the best in the last decade for making white wine.
The Pinot Gris grapes that created this beautiful wine came from established vineyards in Lowburn (48%), Bendigo (21%) Gibbston (16%) and Queensbury (15%). Each block was harvested at optimal ripeness in April in order to achieve a wine with aromatic freshness and a rich texture. The wine was fermented in 64% neutral oak barrels with the remainder in a stainless steel tank. This combination of vessels achieved noteworthy freshness as well as a creamy texture. No fining products are used to make this wine. Therefore this wine is vegan.
