Description

The southern hairy-nose wombat is smaller than other wombats but is stocky, robust and the proud state emblem of South Australia. Like the might of the little wombat, Little Giant is crafted from premium regional South Australian fruit from established vineyards that deliver character and interest well above their size and weight. Hand-crafted and made with minimal additions and preservatives, these are wines made of the vineyard.  The grapes are picked at optimal ripeness, minimally handled in the winery and fruit vibrancy is not hidden by non-essential artefact. Seeking first and foremost fruit expression, drinkability and to be a great accompaniment to food. Don’t let the size fool you, these are wines you’ll want to drink.

Collection includes:

2 x Little Giant Barossa Shiraz 2019 (Australia)

AWARDED 93/100 POINTS & 5 STARS: Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jun 2020

AWARDED 91/100 POINTS: Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot, Jun 2021

"Gorgeously ripe and perfumed, the bouquet shows blackberry, raspberry, tar, vanilla and cedar characters. It's equally satisfying on the palate with excellent fruit weight and persistency. Silky, fleshy and flavoursome" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jun 2020

"The Barossa Valley is known throughout the world for long aging wines, such as Penfolds Grange. But don’t be fooled, it’s also home to plenty of good value, hearty and honest red wines well suited to early drinking, like this one. It is deeply coloured and has a classic Barossa feel with blackberry compote fruits over a bed of sweet mocha oak. Dry, generous, and mouthfulling, it is well pitched for a mid-week shiraz with fleshy dark fruit flavours and more sweet oak on a supple palate with a nice touch of pepper to finish. Enjoy with lamb chops" Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot, June 2021

The Barossa Valley is typified in the aromas of this wine: plum, red licorice, chocolate and mocha characters whilst the addition of spicier more elegant fruit of the cooler Eden Valley adds lift, interest and freshness. This is a contemporary Barossa Shiraz having spent maturation time in older oak adding subtle vanilla and earthy nuance. There’s softness on the finish while maintaining freshness and vibrancy.

Food Pairing: Pair with a porterhouse steak with peppercorn sauce.

"It's wonderfully ripe and immediately appealing on the nose showing cassis, dark plum, vanilla, cedar and subtle tobacco notes, followed by a concentrated palate that's flavoursome and persistent. The wine combined fabulous fruit richness with elegant complexity. At its best: now to 2029" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2020

"These Little Giant wines are built to impress and are packed full of flavour. Our favourite of the lot is this delicious Coonawarra Cabernet with the classic appeal of this famous region. It is deeply coloured and displays beautifully pure leafy, choc-mint and blackcurrant fruits with a touch of cedar too, and admirable concentration. The fruit is generous and fleshy on the palate backed by balanced tannins and acidity plus subtle oak that drive a long finish. Quite a serious wine from Coonawarra at a great price" Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot, Sep 2020

"The Little Giant range are from the reliable Fourth Wave Wine and put together by winemakers are Corey Ryan and Jim Zerella. Celebrating South Australian regions, the bottles are a stocky, stout package representative of its label showing southern hairy-nose wombat, South Australia’s fauna emblem. Deep cassis, older eucalypt foliage, black cherry, raw/new oak, tang of spearmint, touch of rosewater, ground mace and black olive on the withdraw. Slick, modern and fresh. Bright black fruits propelled with juicy energy and exuberance. Tannins aren’t formidable, yet still present to offer body and density as a fine base layer. Such a fun drink, you have to remind yourself it’s Coonawarra cabernet. Mod Cab Sauv made for drinking" Regan Drew, 2020

Appears bright crimson red with deep purple hues. Showing a lifted perfumed nose of blackcurrant and mulberry fruit and followed by a chocolate oak and subtle spice character. The palate shows dark berry fruit flavours upfront with hints of nutmeg as well as subtle herb and red florals in the finish. Supple varietal tannins give classical framework and weight to the wine which finishes with integrated fruit and oak driving a long finish.

Food Pairing: Perfect with lamb shanks.

"A polished, smooth-skinned red wine that is sure to have widespread appeal. This manages to be bold, ripe and classy at once. It’s flushed with ripe, sweet, energetic berried flavour and is prettied further by an appropriate clip of cedar wood oak. Very nicely done. You can sink yourself into this one" Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front, Apr 2021

"It's beautifully fruited and perfumed, showing Black Doris plum, raspberry, floral and mixed spice aromas, leading to a succulent palate offering youthful fruit intensity together with silky texture and fine-grained tannins. Friendly and delightfully drinkable" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2021

"Looking for a big red wine that is not shiraz? Then look no further than malbec from some of the warmer regions in South Australia. They are wines that are not only deeply coloured but also pack plenty of flavour and impact. This version from Little Giant is unsurprisingly deep ruby in colour and displays those classic malbec characters – blackberry and ink which are lifted by a dusting of violets, earth and spice. The fruit in then bright and generous in a full-bodied package with supple tannins. It fades a bit on the finish but is still a good drink for when red meat is on the menu" Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot, May 2021

A classic looking Malbec with a deep crimson colour in the glass. Dark berry aromas complemented by floral hints and a subtle sweet tobacco influence that is so typical of the variety. The palate is bursting with juicy black fruits, a touch of oak and a soft easy-going tannin structure.

Food Pairing: perfect for any kind of barbecued meats.

1 x Little Giant Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir 2021 (Australia)

AWARDED 92/100 POINTS & 4.5 STARS: Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2021

"Made from grapes grown in Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek, this is gorgeously fruit forward and lifted on the nose showing sweet cherry, raspberry, olive and floral notes. The palate displays juicy fruit intensity together with silken texture and mellow tannins, making it immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2021

A bigger more flavoursome Pinot Noir, showing regional character and imbued with complexity found in the Adelaide Hills. There’s vibrant strawberry and cherry aromas on the nose enhanced by an earthy intensity. It strikes a balance of sweet and savoury fruit on the palate with a complexing length that displays cleansing acidity with soft tannins and a lasting finish.

"Youthfully fruited and instantly appealing with perfumed aromas of sweet berry and floral with a hint of fragrant spices. The beautifully weighted palate is both elegant and generous with succulent fruit intensity and flowing mouthfeel, finishing gorgeously long and velvety. At its best: now to 2026" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2020

"Big McLaren Vale regional nose of jubey raspberry, rose petals, sandy rocks and with a touch of licorice. Bright and crunchy red fruits with almost tacky tannins before drawing to a tight, enjoyable finish" Regan Drew, The Chronicle, Feb 2021

"Sweet fruit flavour and lots of it. Red licorice for the most part though boysenberry, violet, anise and sweet spice all make appearances. Truth is that this just slips down beautifully. The fruit is sweet, warm and ripe but it’s so generous, so fresh, so eager to please. It feels soft in the mouth; there’s just enough fruity tannin to shape it. It’s not complex but it doesn’t need to be" Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front, Jan 2021

The Little Giant Grenache just keeps getting better. A wine that is both mouth-filling yet medium weight with ripe fruited intensity. Vital red and dark berry fruit underpinned by hints of chocolate and integrated oak. The palate delivers tight-knit tannins and ensures a lasting flavour of berries, vanilla and freshly ground spices.

Food Pairing: Perfect with lamb souvlaki and spicy cous cous.
