Description

  • Ripe, jammy fruit
  • Spice notes
  • Red cherry
  • Soft tannins

"The famous Rhône producer, esteemed for its Hermitage La Chapelle, changed hands in 2006 and is now under the same ownership as Château La Lagune of Bordeaux. I can’t recall a more impressive vintage of this grenache-based red blend. The bouquet is typical of the appellation: earthy and minerally, with dried herb, wood-char and spice aromas, the palate almost full-bodied, quite firm and bold, with very good depth of flavour and character for a wine of its station. Typical burnt-charry flavours augment the spice, herb and fruit notes. Good length. This vintage has extra depth and character" Huon Hooke, Real Review, Aug 2021

"Deep red cherry and spiced berry notes on the nose. This has a nice mouthfeel where the soft tannins subtly coat the mouth. There's spice and soft, chewy, jammy fruit on the palate. It's not overly layered but it's balanced and enjoyable packing a punch in terms of fruit flavour but doesn't feel heavy on the palate" Decanter

Deep and dense colour, spices aromas dominate (nutmeg and pepper) with notes of very ripe and jammy red fruits. The mouth is intensely flavoured, smooth and powerful, the tannins are well incorporated by a generous flesh. Roasted and smoky notes appear on the finish.

The soils are covered with round pebble stomes on the right bank of the Rhône (about half the parcels) and limestone-clay alluvium in the department de Vaucluse.

The mourvèdres are co-fermented with Grenaches to fix the colour and the tannins. The Syrah is vinified separately with maceration and soft extraction that last about 3 weeks.

This Côtes du Rhône takes its name from the 45th North parallel which runs two kilometres from the winemakers cellars. This cuvée represents Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aîné's commitment towards organic viticulture and respect for the environment. The hand-crafted organic farming results in a lively wine with great harmony and purity of fruit.

Food Pairing: Grilled meats, lasagna with Mediterranean vegetables, matured sheep's cheese, fondant au chocolat.

Terrific. Lovely big pinot without all the aftermath...
