"Elegant fruit intensity and rich texture" Wine Orbit

"Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features rich and exotic fruit flavours" Raymond Chan

In one word the best food pairing for this Albarino is seafood! We suggest trying with Cod & Cockles steamed in White Wine.

Description

"A fabulous expression of the variety, the fragrant bouquet shows apricot, ripe citrus, floral and spice characters with a hint of smoky complexity. The palate is concentrated and generously weighted, and offers elegant fruit intensity and rich texture, wonderfully framed by seamlessly integrated acidity. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit,  Oct 2016

"Bright straw-yellow colour with green-gold suggestions, paler on edge. The nose is softly concentrated with clear and refreshing aromas of exotic white florals and stonefruits along with a layering of lime, that blossom in richness and volume. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features rich and exotic fruit flavours of white stonefruits and citrus fruits lifted by white florals and nuances of herbs. The mouthfeel is rounded and lush, with a good core and soft-textures guiding line, balanced by crisp, lacy acidity. This has palate presence and weight. The flavours lead to a long and lingering exotic-fruited finish. This is a softly concentrated dry Albarino with gently rich flavours of exotic florals and stonefruits and a fine-flowing palate. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 4 years. 100% Albarino, hand-picked and WBP, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc. and 2.4 g/L RS, TA 6.08 g/L and pH 3.33, the wine aged 5 months on lees." Raymond Chan, Oct 2016

Aromatic stonefruit with a hint of citrus, followed by a rounded palate and a long, clean finish. The 2016 Albarino is a little richer and fatter than the 2015, and is a brilliant seafood wine as well as doing a pretty decent job as an aperitif and general thirst quencher. Will cellar comfortably for 4-6 years.

Redmetal Vineyards began in 1991 with the purchase of a north facing block of prime viticultural land in Hawkes Bay, a region renowned for it's agricultural excellence.  The vineyard is part of an ancient riverbed that once carried rock down to the east coast from the steep Ruahine ranges that form part of the spine of New Zealand's North Island. These free-draining river deposited gravels (locally known as red metals) form the basis of the major fine wine producing areas within Hawkes Bay. This 2016 Albarino is the first commercial bottling from the second crop vines, the first crop minuscule, resulting only in a few bottles for family and friends' consumption. This vineyard is tended and the resulting wines made by Bron Davies, wife of Nigel Davies, the white winemaker at Sileni Estates, with input from both Nigel and Grant Edmonds.

The grapes for this 100% Albarino wine were cane pruned,  VSP trellis was cropped at 3.0 kg/vine. Trimming and fruit zone leaf plucking also took place beofe hand harvesting at 23.3 Brix. These grapes were whole bunch pressed prior to a cool fermentation in stainless steel then matured "sur lie" for 5 months.
