Description

"The wine combines ripe fruit flavours with appealing savoury notes, showing dark berry, game, mixed spice and nutmeg aromas on the nose, followed by a nicely rounded palate that is fruity and smooth. The wine is gentle and supple, and offers delightful drinking. At its best: now to 2019. June 2017." Sam kim, Wine Orbit, June 2017

Ward Valley 'Epicentre' contains sweet black cherry, blueberry and dried herb aromas, interwoven floral notes, smoked paprika and vanilla coffee. Whilst the palate is lively red cherry and ripe blackcurrants with a fresh acid balance and delicious round full palate and a distinctive smoky character.

On the 14th of November 2016 our Ward Valley Estate Vineyard was shaken badly for 2 minutes by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake. Luckily for the vineyard the damage was minimal but the earthquake was so powerful that down at Ward Beach the sea bed rose over 2m. It was this force of nature that inspired the name for our 'Epicentre' Pinot Noir.

A well-balanced small crop allowed us to select fragrant ripe Pinot Noir fruit from our Ward Valley Estate Coastal Block. Aromas of sweet black cherry, blueberry and dried herb with interwoven floral notes, smoked paprika and vanilla coffee. The palate gives lively red cherry and ripe blackcurrants with a fresh acid balance and delicious round full palate and a distinctive smoky character.

Food Pairing: Great to be enjoyed on its own or paired with red meats, duck and pheasant.
