Description

Gold Medal Winner Air New Zealand Wine Awards& 92pts Central Otago Pinot Noir

"Classic Otago Pinot Noir bouquet with very youthful primary red berry fruits lead by dark cherry and sweet raspberry, very soft sweet herb note with a savoury edge; moderate oak suggestions with some dark spices of cinnamon and clove, overall quite complex. On the palate - juicy, fruity, plush and loaded with flavours of dark cherry and plummy fruit; some sweet vanilla and brown spice layers, finer tannins and plenty of acidity, a lovely example in a drink now or keep style. If you drink now - decant for service; if you keep then make it at least 3-5 yrs" Cameron Douglas

"Light ruby-red colour with purple hues and some depth at the heart, lighter edged. The nose is softly concentrated with harmoniously interwoven aromas of dark red cherry fruit with delicate nuances of thyme herbs and spices, and aromatic red floral elements. Medium-bodied, the palate features bright, vibrant and fresh fruit flavours of red cherries entwined with subtle notes of thyme herbs and red florals that form an elegant core. The mouthfeel is enlivened by crisp, lacy acidity and the palate flows along a fine line with supple tannin extraction. This has good tension and vitality, and carries to a bright, juicy finish of red cherry fruit. This is a fresh, vibrant, fruit-focussed Pinot Noir with flavours of red cherries and a lively, supple mouthfeel. Serve with firm-fleshed seafood, poultry and pork, and with Asian cuisine over the next 4 years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 777, 667, 5 and 10/5, destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine spending 25-30 days on skins, the wine aged 10 months in 15-20% new French oak." The Allan Scott Family has always shown a keen interest in Central Otago. The Scott Base vineyard was established in 1994 and is situated in the heart of Central Otago on terraces overlooking the town of Cromwell and Lake Dunstan. Scott Base is a terraced vineyard with sandy, silty, loam soil, and sustainably managed.

Exhibiting classic aromatics of ripe cherries, raspberries and a subtle herbaceous dose of wild thyme. Soft on entry with the fruit characters building in the mid palate floating onto a soft velvety medium weight finish.
