This wine very much reflects the 2016 vintage, where night time temperatures were warmer than in normal years. The flavours are riper on the whole with an added bonus of an extra sense of minerality. The colour is pale yellow. The bouquet has intense currant, herbal and passion fruit aromas. In the mouth the wine has good weight and texture with fine acidity. The intense midpalate leads to a dry, persistent clean finish.

Fruit was crushed with minimal skin contact. Only free-run juice and light pressings were used in the final blend. The Sauvignon Blanc wine was fermented in stainless steel. Yeast strains specifically developed for Sauvignon Blanc were used to conduct the fermentation.

Mission’s Blind River vineyard possesses a special aspect with gentle slopes and soils comprising sandy loams, with a proportion of clay particles that overlay a gravel subsoil. They are soils that are naturally free draining and give good vine health but restricted vigour due to these stony sub soils. This select Sauvignon Blanc was off D block, which had a low crop load of around 10 tonnes per hectare.  The fruit had developed intense flavours, riper than normal, at harvest on 6 April at 21.2 Brix.
