"Impressively complex and inviting, the bouquet shows grapefruit, crunchy apple, oatmeal and lemon peel aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that's gorgeously flavoursome and persistent. It's brilliantly structured by vibrant acidity, finishing long and engaging. At its best: now to 2026" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2020

of stone fruit, citrus blossom, and tropical notes, all supported by lightly smoked oak with a hint of flint and vanilla pod. The palate is equally as complex and generous. Tropical fruits are balanced by lemongrass, fennel and citrus themes. The oak provides a savoury element to the wine; caramel and vanilla notes combined with toasted cashew and spice.

Food Pairing: This wine is a celebration of Marlborough and is perfectly suited to fresh seafood and light poultry dishes.

AWARDED 94/100 POINTS: Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Oct 2021

AWARDED 92/100 POINTS & 4 Stars: Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Oct 2021

"Beautifully composed and splendidly complex, the wine shows crunchy apple, fresh fig, jalapeno and lemon peel characters with nuances of oatmeal and beeswax. The powerfully concentrated palate displays excellent focus and drive, combined with finely textured mouthfeel and bright acidity, finishing impressively long and engaging. At its best: now to 2029" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2021

"There’s no mistaking the desirable and alluring scents of barrel-ferment, sauvignon blanc varietal fruit, sweet herbs and a compelling complex sweet aroma of lees with a whisper of smoke and river pebbles. Flavours of citrus, lemon, preserved apple, golden kiwi-fruit, a leesy spice and barrel-ferment salty sweet air complexity. Herbs and tropical fruit flavours follow accentuated by acidity along with a youthful, vibrant silky texture" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Oct 2021

"Bright, pale yellow with some depth with a slight green hue, even colour throughout. The nose is gently full and elegantly presented, poised aromas of smoky flint lead subtle nuts and buttered toast nuances, underlying citrus and tropical fruit direction. Full-bodied, the palate is bright with multilayered aromas of fresh lemon, lime, mango and guava, followed by a dusting of white spice, then linger with toast, nuts and crusty baguette. The mouthfeel is refined, dusty phenolics contribute to an opulent texture; the barrel-fermented details of flint, nut and toast are well-proportioned, enriched the sweet, pure expression of fruit. This is an elegant, age-worthy Sauvignon Blanc with pure fruit and well-portioned barrel-fermented complexity and structure" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Sep 2021

"Fermented and matured for 11 months in French oak. Quite a weighty, textural sauvignon blanc, with spicy oak and vanilla flavours competing for attention with melon, passionfruit, guava and box-hedge characters" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Oct 2021

Aromatically the wine gives impressions of oyster shells, citrus blossom, and dried herbs, all supported by lightly smoked oak with a hint of flint and vanilla pod. The palate is equally as complex and generous. Poached pear and melon are balanced by fennel and lime driven citrus. The oak provides a savoury foil to the wine; salted caramel and vanilla notes combined with marzipan and spice.

Food Pairing: This wine is a celebration of Marlborough and is perfectly suited to fresh seafood and light poultry dishes.

Below I commented on the 2015 vintage. I have now tried the 2016 and it seemed even better: cape gooseberry and nutty, toasty oak on the nose while on the palate the oak was more integrated with the fruit, more finessed than the preceding vintage. A richer, more rounded feel and a long finish. Later gaining suggestions of cream of tartar and nettle on the nose while the palate had touches of apricot kernel. A delicious, very satisfying wine. 2015: Pale lemon with a faint green tint and restrained aromas of cape gooseberry, pea pod, nettles, and a slight mealiness. A subtle rather than up-front wine with tropical fruit overtones of dried mango and pineapple to accompany more pea pod and nettles. Toasty oak present but seeming separated from the fruit rather than the more integrated, richer lees-derived mealiness of some other wines made in comparable fashion. The finish was medium-plus length. A distinctive and intriguing wine; not quite the depth of flavour and satisfaction offered by some others like it but nonetheless highly commended and tremendous value. I would encourage other NZ Sauvignon Blanc producers to experiment with such techniques to produce wines with greater dimension, food-suitability, and interest.

Love this style of Sauvignon Blanc. I’ve just tried the 2015. Lovely balance and complexity - each sip revealing more. Awesome value. Love. Buying more.

Jannette - 30/08/2020

Absolutely love this style of Sauvignon with oak influence but many are very highly priced. We loved trying the different vintages and have put our favourite away to try again later in the year.
