It's brilliantly structured by vibrant acidity, finishing long and engaging. At its best: now to 2026" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2020

"A beautifully maturing sauvignon; the wine shows golden apple, dried grass, apricot and jasmine aromas on the nose, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate that's richly textured and expansive. It's gorgeously harmonious and complex with seductive savoury nuances, making it immensely appealing. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2020
"Barrel-fermented and oak-aged for 11 months. A rich and textural sauvignon blanc, with obvious oak influence adding an extra layer of toasty complexity to ripe stone fruit flavours. A weighty, smooth-textured wine that promises to age well in bottle" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Nov 2017
The high quality of the fruit, combined with the gentle and respectful approach in the winery has resulted in a wine with an intriguing combination of poise and elegance, balanced by an intense and complex flavour profile. Aromatically the wine gives impressions of stone fruit, citrus blossom, and tropical notes, all supported by lightly smoked oak with just a hint of flint. The palate is equally complex and generous. Tropical fruits are balanced by lemongrass and citrus themes. The oak provides a savoury element to the wine; caramel and vanilla notes combine with cashew nuts and spice.

"This is stunningly beautiful; it's fabulously scented on the nose showing mango, baked fig, apple and beeswax notes with hints of lemon zest and almond. The palate exhibits outstanding concentration and depth, wonderfully enhanced by multi-layered mouthfeel and perfectly pitched acidity. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2020
"A restrained barrel fermented sauvignon blanc, with subtle passionfruit and tree fruit flavours together with savoury toast and spicy oak, plus a suggestion of matchstick and mineral. A classy wine with development potential" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Nov 2016
The high quality of the fruit, combined with the gentle and respectful approach in the winery has resulted in a wine with an intriguing combination of poise and elegance, balanced by an intense and complex flavour profile. Aromatically the wine gives impressions of grapefruit, citrus blossom, ripe stonefruit and flint. The palate is weighty with stonefruit and citrus pith to the fore. The fruit is supported by spice and toasted nuts, a hint of toffee and refreshing acidity. A deliciously drinkable wine, which will evolve and slowly reveal layers and subtleties in the glass.

Below I commented on the 2015 vintage. I have now tried the 2016 and it seemed even better: cape gooseberry and nutty, toasty oak on the nose while on the palate the oak was more integrated with the fruit, more finessed than the preceding vintage. A richer, more rounded feel and a long finish. Later gaining suggestions of cream of tartar and nettle on the nose while the palate had touches of apricot kernel. A delicious, very satisfying wine. 2015: Pale lemon with a faint green tint and restrained aromas of cape gooseberry, pea pod, nettles, and a slight mealiness. A subtle rather than up-front wine with tropical fruit overtones of dried mango and pineapple to accompany more pea pod and nettles. Toasty oak present but seeming separated from the fruit rather than the more integrated, richer lees-derived mealiness of some other wines made in comparable fashion. The finish was medium-plus length. A distinctive and intriguing wine; not quite the depth of flavour and satisfaction offered by some others like it but nonetheless highly commended and tremendous value. I would encourage other NZ Sauvignon Blanc producers to experiment with such techniques to produce wines with greater dimension, food-suitability, and interest.

Absolutely love this style of Sauvignon with oak influence but many are very highly priced. We loved trying the different vintages and have put our favourite away to try again later in the year.
