Description

  • Off-dry style
  • Ripe peach
  • Wild honey
  • Medium-bodied

This wine opens with ripe peach, pear and apple aromas, and a hint of blossom, which carry through to the palate. The orchard fruits nestle on a soft and lively palate, with a medium body and pleasing, rounded texture. The finish is clean and fresh, with a touch of wild honey. This wine is released ready to drink and bursting with fresh fruit flavours. It will gain some honeyed notes over 2-3 years of careful cellaring.

The 2022 season was a mix of climatic features. Soil moisture was ideal at the beginning of the season after significant winter rains. The monthly rainfall during the season alternated above or below average. During the critical flowering period the weather was dry and warm, favouring higher crop levels. Dry soils in January were alleviated with significant February rain. Focus on picking decisions and care during the harvest period was crucial to ensure that fruit was picked in the best possible condition to ensure fruit showcased the acidity and freshness it is renowned for. The first Marlborough sparkling fruit was picked on 16th February, about 14 days ahead of average for Marlborough, and harvest completed on 13th April.

The grapes harvested for this wine were crushed and gently bag pressed off to achieve fresh, elegant juice. The juice was clarified and fermented with, in stainless steel, using selected aromatic yeasts. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, with selected aromatic yeasts, with temperature control. No malolactic fermentation or oak were used in the winemaking, as pure expression of ripe fruit was the desired style, and only the most varietal and fragrant wines were selected for the final blend.

Food Pairing: Enjoy this wine on its own, or with a summer platter of charcuterie and cheeses. Alternatively, serve with a garlic and herb roasted chicken, and baby potatoes. This wine will also be wonderful served with light fruit desserts such as poached pear with vanilla cream.

Light and dry, easy drinking but still with good character. Good buying.
