Description

  • French oak
  • Plum & mulberry
  • Vanilla & warm spice
  • Velvety mouthfeel

"This is splendidly fruited and immediately appealing on the nose showing dark plum, mulberry, toasted spice and hazelnut characters with a hint of cocoa complexity. The palate has excellent weight and roundness, wonderfully complemented by fleshy texture and well-pitched tannins. Modern, upfront and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2027" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, 2022

"A core of sweet fruit is perfectly balanced by fine, drying tannins to give a pleasantly dry, peppery finish. Simple, pleasing wine with ripe cherry, floral/red rose, black pepper and mixed spice characters. Smooth-textured red with a lingering finish. Good value at this price" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Oct 2022

"Aromas of dark berries and plum, violet with a touch of field mushroom and black spices. On the palate taut and youthful with a decent core of red and black currant flavours along with some plum the spice. Oak is balanced and even, acidity is medium, tannins add mouthfeel and texture. A well made wine, dry and fruity, ready to drink from 2022 through 2025" Cameron Douglas, Master Somelier

Deep red with a purple hints in the glass. The vibrant nose bursts with black cherry, plum and liquorice as well as pepper notes and vanilla. The wine is concentrated and smooth on the palate with a lovely texture and a spicy toasty finish.

Produced by the highly acclaimed LGI wines, awarded Best French Still Wine Producer at Berliner Wein Trophy in 2017, 2018 and 2019! Originally the brainchild of Alain Grignon, who had a vision of making affordable, classic French wines designed specifically for the international market. Now under the supervision of oenologist Xavier Roger.

The Combe Rocher (literally ‘rocky valley’) range is one of pure authenticity crafted from carefully selected terroirs, situated on high altitude slopes, with rocky soils. The terroir effect is very noticeable in this region due to the great variety of winegrowing microclimates. Selected from rocky terroirs located between the Montagne Noire (Black Mountain range) over four departments along the Languedoc-Roussillon. This is a perfect location, with hot sunny days to fully ripen the grapes. Here, the northern mountains of the Pyrenees and the Cevennes embrace the vineyards of the Pays d’Oc like amphitheatre.

Fully ripe grapes are destemmed and divided into two parcels. A small part passes the process of thermovinification and maceration which enhances the aromatic profile of the Syrah. The majority of the grapes are fermented on their skins for about three weeks, extracting great character and richness. 30% of the wine stays in contact with French oak adding complexity and roundness of texture to the wine.

Food Pairing: Enjoy this wine at room temperature, with grilled meat dishes, rustic pasta, vegetable and bean stew, hard cheeses.

I recently purchased a case of this French Syrah and was thoroughly impressed! The wine boasts a velvety texture, accompanied by delightful notes of fruity berries and cherries, with a subtle hint of licorice lingering in the background. It paired beautifully with both steak and homemade beef burgers filled with blue cheese and chopped red onions.
