Description

  • Integrated oak
  • Plum & fig
  • Vanilla & lavender
  • Spicy tannins

"Aromas of dark berries and peppery spices then scents of dark black currant and blueberries. Sweet toasty wood then barrel spices of vanilla and some clove add complexity and depth. Fleshy, fresh, salivating and dry. Tannins are are abundant with a fine texture accentuated by acidity and spice qualities. Well made, ripe, fruity, varietal and youthful. Well made with decent ageing potential. Best drinking from 2022 through 2028+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Dec 2021

A floral nose of iris and lavender with fresh, juicy red summer berries and well-integrated oak, giving aromas of vanilla and smoke. A well-balanced palate with black Doris plum and fig. Tannins are spicy giving great length and structure. This wine is drinking well now but can be cellared for up to 10 years.

The grapes were harvested from the Tantallon vineyard and transported to our Riverview winery where they were crushed to open topped stainless steel fermentation vessels and inoculated with a range of yeast strains.  The ferments were pumped over several times per day until dry and then allowed from 2 to 5 days extended maceration.  The wine was then pressed off the skins and put to barrel where it was aged for 18 months.  The wine was then transported by road tanker to our Katikati winery for final blending and finishing. Bottling was in October 2021. Contains sulphites. Fined using egg product, traces may remain.

Food Pairing: Enjoy with steak, grilled eggplant, or spicy sausage.
