"Splendidly fruited and engaging, the bouquet shows sweet cherry, thyme, cedar, dark spice and mushroom aromas, leading to a concentrated palate offering excellent weight and persistency. Wonderfully framed by silky texture and polished tannins, offering fabulous drinking" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2021
"Bright, moderately deep ruby-red colour with good transparency, lighter edged. The nose is vibrant, underlined spice and power, aromas of red cherries, plums melded with roasted coffee and black pepper. Medium-bodied, succulent aromas of cherries, plums are spiced with black pepper, rosemary and violet, a hint of mocha lingering. The fruit is ripe, presented with depth and length; liquorice, savoury complexity unfolds on the closing. The mouthfeel is smooth and elegant, possesses supple, lightly powdery tannin extraction and a black tea fragrant edge. This is a harmonious Pinot Noir with a juicy fruit core, violet, black pepper and rich herb details on a silky palate. Match with pork ribeye and roasted duck over the next 5+ years. Handpicked fruit from Three Miners Vineyard, Alexandra, cold-soaked in open-top fermenters for 5 days, fermented to 13.5% alc, post-ferment maceration for 4 days, then aged in French oak barrels" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Oct 2021
Ruby coloured. Plum, cherry, mocha and savoury aromatics. The palate is complex with red bramble fruit and silky tannins with a long and textured finish.
The fruit was hand harvested on the 20th of April 2020 at 23 Brix from Three Miners Vineyard, Alexandra. The fruit was destemmed and allowed to cold soak in open top fermenters for 5 days before fermentation. The wine was fermented at a maximum of 31 degrees and once dry, was left on skins for 4 days to build balance before been drained. The remaining skins were pressed and combined with the free-run juice. The wine was settled for 24 hours and then racked to French oak barrels for maturation.
The Warden’s Court dealt with the registration and enforcement of Miner’s Rights. Disputes often arose over claim jumping, forgeries, water races, roading and between partners of a joint claim. The old Courthouse in Alexandra is one of the town’s oldest stone buildings and was opened on the 16th of June 1879 to house The Warden’s Court.
Food Pairing: Beef, lamb and duck with cherries.
