"Quite lifted, and delicate on the nose with appealing aromas of Turkish delight, pot pourri, baking spices, and milk chocolate oak. A fully-evolved, mellow-textured wine showing plush fruit on the front palate with cocoa powder, oak flavours, and silky, well-integrated, mouth-coating tannins. Good commercial appeal" NZ Wine Rater, Sep 2021
Intense aromas of spice, doris plum, and dark red berries lead to a rich palate, laden with concentrated fruit and chalky, ripe tannins.
Their aim in the vineyard is to grow the best fruit they can so it can speak of its home and express its personality. To do this you need healthy vines and soil. By practicing organics and incorporating biodynamic principles they believe they are doing their best to help achieve this and allowing their vineyards to evolve and express themselves. Their Pinot Noir comes from Bendigo, Central Otago, sitting 400m above sea level and planted on the North West facing ridges.
The fruit is de-stemmed into open top French cuves where it cold soaks for a week before it spontaneously ferments lasting about three weeks. It is then pressed off into a mixture of seasoned and new (25%) French Oak, where it matures for 20 months before bottling, without filtering or fining. Clones: Abel, 115, 777, 5, and 667.
