Description

  • Bone-dry style
  • Kaffir lime
  • Blackcurrant bud
  • Mineral acidity

Produced especially for the Marlborough RSA to raise funds for the support of military veterans, this premium Sauvignon Blanc by Clark Estate in the Awatere Valley is vibrant and powerful.

"The wine is pristine and impressively fragrant on the nose showing grapefruit, kaffir lime, apple and feijoa characters, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate that is bright and flavoursome. It is punchy and fabulously expressed with a lengthy tasty finish" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Crisp, tangy Awatere sauvignon blanc with typical racy green capsicum, gooseberry, nettle, oyster shell and subtle passionfruit flavours. A good food wine in a bone-dry style. Punchy wine" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review

"Fruity, savoury, tropical, herbaceous, pungent and classic. Aromas and flavours of gooseberry and nettles, mango and peach, grapefruit and hay. Plenty of acidity to keep the palate fresh as well as emphasise the wet stone minerality. Young, fresh and vibrant. Lots to like and easy to drink with a core of fruit and herbs & just dry finish. Drink now and through 2022" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier

The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc is delightfully aromatic with lifted notes of cool climate stone fruits, blackcurrant bud and gooseberries filling the glass. There is an abundance of fruit weight on the palate which is structured and well balanced, with refreshing mineral acidity.

The Upper Awatere is known for its rugged soils, unforgiving climate and stunning Sauvignon Blanc flavours. Strong winds, scorching daytime temperatures, and cool clear nights contribute to the development of the amazing flavours found in Sauvignon Blanc grapes. This single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is crafted by this terroir, creating wines that are pristine, refined and well balanced, with a strong sense of place.

The 2019 season was ideal. The spring temperatures were cool but not too cold, the summer season was warm but not too hot and the autumn weather gave very good ripening days without too much rainfall. Thankfully there were no significant weather events and the vines happily ripened the grapes to their full potential. The canopy was very healthy and flush, and full flavoursome fruit was harvested in the cool of the night to retain the refreshing acidity and finesse.

Bought this on bit of a whim. It’s a good cause.
