Description

  • Dry style
  • Apple & ripe pear
  • Soft ginger spice
  • Florals

"Wonderfully ripe and immediately appealing, the wine shows apricot, mandarin, pear and subtle spice notes on the nose, leading to a succulent palate that's fleshy and persistent. A comforting wine with plenty of delectable flavours, offering terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2023" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2020

Displaying lovely delicate characteristics of ripe pear, red apple and hints of ginger spice as well as vibrant florals and lychee, uniquely derived from the growing conditions of the Waipara wine region. This is a mouth filling and textural wine with an excellent richness. It is best enjoyed young, within three years of the vintage date.

The warm, dry climate, high sunshine hours and long growing seasons in the region are perfectly suited to produce Pinot Gris with ripe flavours whilst retaining good natural acidity. Fruit for this wine was sourced from the Waiata Vineyard located in the Waipara wine growing region. Grown on the famous Glasnevin soils that are unique to this region.

Grapes were harvested over two days in late March at optimum ripeness, then lightly pressed to tank. Cultured yeast strains and cool fermentation techniques in the tank have helped preserve the natural fruit flavours of the wine. Some residual sugar was left to balance the final blend. Post fermentation, the wine was left on yeast lees with occasional stirring to help build the desired texture and richness on the palate. Gentle fining and careful filtration followed before bottling.

This is an outstanding wine. Slightly oily on the palate with distinctive pear and apple as a good pinot gris should be. Long fruity after taste to finish which is always wanted, but seldom received in most wines from this grape.

Noel - 25/02/2021

This is the best NZ Piot Gris I have tasted. I was a guest of Jean Hugel- and Hugels make the French benchmark Pinot Gris. This is the only NZ interpretation of the grape that stands comparison

Good value for money.think it needs a little more age.

Anna - 18/06/2021

Great value and flavoursome, but a tad too sweet for my tastes - will stick to Pinot Grigio in future. I based my purchase on reviews on this occasion.
