Description

  • French oak
  • Vanilla & roasted hazelnut
  • Ripe stone fruit
  • Creamy mouthfeel & tangy acidity

"This is gorgeously composed and styled; showing nectarine, fig, vanilla and roasted hazelnut aromas on the nose, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate that's fleshy and creamy. It's graceful and persistent with splendid complexity. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jun 2020

"From the China Terrace section of the Bendigo subregion. Powerful chardonnay with citrus, grapefruit, melon, struck-flint and spicy oak flavours. A seamless wine with impressive purity and a lengthy finish driven by tangy acidity" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Jun 2020

"An enticing bouquet with ripe almost sweet citrus, red apple and white peach aromas. Scents of medium toast wood spices then a white stone mineral layer. Attractive and fresh with an inviting complexity. On the palate - youthful with a fleshy and salivating attack; flavours of sweet lemon, grapefruit and white fleshed stone fruits return. Fine fruit and wood tannins, a cashew and mild toasty wood layer, quite lengthy, medium+ weight and finishing dry. A lovely wine, just at the beginning of its settling in phase so best drinking from mid to late 2021 and through 2025" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Jun 2020

"Bright, light yellow with a slight green hue, youthful. The nose is elegantly presented with notes of white peaches, citrus zest along of aromas of melted butter, raw almonds, and a dusting of delicate spices underlying crushed rocks minerality. The palate is poise with a soft and fresh taut of acidity, hauling ripened peaches, citrus fruit and zest, entwined with a slight nuttiness and subtle spices. Medium-bodied, creamy and light palate, balanced by the soft and lively acidity. The complexing crunchy mineral element is adding another layer of interest. This is an elegantly presented, complex Chardonnay with multi-layers of interest; lively acidity flows on a creamy palate leads to a long and mineral finish. Match with poultry and pork sausages over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from a single vineyard on Bendigo Terrace, a mix of clones 548, Mendoza and 809. Whole bunch pressed, full solid, wild fermented to 13% alc. Aged 10 months in French oak, 15% new, minimal battonage, full MLF" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Wine Reviews, Jun 2020

This elegant cool climate Chardonnay offers an enticing combination of citrus (lemon), stone fruit and tropical (pineapple) tones on the nose with a touch of vanilla bean and ginger. The palate is delicate, fresh and pure with great focus and a lingering finish. Zingy citrus gives great energy to the wine with lovely integrated oak giving ample structure. Lively and fresh in its youth, it should develop beautifully for 7+ years.

These Chardonnay grapes come from a single vineyard located on a prestigious terrace in Bendigo which was planted with clones 548, Mendoza and 809.

The 2018 - 2019 growing season returned to more classic conditions with warm (but not hot) days and cool nights. Yields were normal with minimal disease pressure and we had the benefit of the classic long hang time. The cool nights helped retain the perfect level of acidity for Chardonnay.

The grapes were hand harvested between March 29 and April 8. The wine was whole bunch pressed and fermented with wild yeasts on full solids which adds both richness and complexity to the wine. The wine is fermented and aged for 10 months in 15% new French oak from the premium Troncais forest in France; the rest in older French oak. Minimal stirring and full malolactic fermentation gives the wine a balance of creamy texture and great drive.
