Description

  • Stone fruit
  • Melon
  • Soft spice
  • Dry style

"Fabulously fruited and gorgeously lifted, the bouquet shows fresh pear, feijoa, fig and floral characters, leading to a succulent palate that is wonderfully weighted and fleshy. The wine offers lovely vibrancy and fine texture backed by refreshing acidity, finishing long and delicious. At its best: now to 2022" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2019

The Reserve Marlborough Pinot Gris displays lifted aromatics of rose petal, tropical fruits and a hint of ginger. The palate is generous with stone fruit, melon and a subtle spice undertone. An off-dry wine with lovely flavour concentration, impressive weight and a lingering finish.

The 2019 Marlborough growing season had a slow start with below average temperatures and higher rainfall resuting in cooler ground temperatures. Strong, even growth followed in the lead up to flowering and adverse weather events saw a mixed fruit set impacting yields. Extended hot and dry weather resulted in advanced ripening and an earlier start to harvest made on flavour. A large parcel of the Reserve Pinot Gris is from the winemakers very low cropping, windswept vineyard in the Blind River sub-region which gives the wine its freshness and mineral interest, whilst the fruit sourced from the Rapaura sub-region and others gives this wine weight and fruit concentration.

The fruit was gently pressed and the juice was floated and clean racked for fermentation. A selection of commercial and wild yeast strains were used at cool and warm temperatures giving the wine vibrant fresh fruit and a weighty textural element. 4% was fermented in older oak barrels adding to texture.

Each bottle of Rapaura Springs tells the story of a lifetime. Of water and wine, and of generations of family working with nature. The label depicts the rocky aquifer at the home vineyard, and the pristine springs that connect it to the land. Rapaura Springs make exceptional wines that reflect the remarkable landscapes, pure waterways and passionate people. Their Reserve wines are expertly crafted from selected vineyards with impressive flavour concentration and palate weight.
