Description

"Fabulously ripe and instantly appealing, the wine shows blackberry, dark plum, roasted beet, cocoa and cedar characters on the nose, leading to a wonderfully weighted palate that is fleshy and silky. The wine offers gorgeous fruit ripeness and roundness, brilliantly complemented by velvety texture and supple tannins. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2018

Dark ruby, with purple, black hues. A deep mélange of compote like brambly, blue and black fruits show alongside subtle glimpses of sumac and pepper spice. A fresh, supple attack of blackberries and dark plums rolls through deep into the palate, still showing strong and lively all the way through to the finish. This is accompanied by a fresh mid palate line and a super fine tannin frame allowing the wine to focus for a long, balanced finish .

A mild, December and January with cool nights saw ideal conditions prevail towards the end of the 2016 growing season. The result was a measured pace of ripening which ensured the balanced development of sugar and flavours in the fruit along with the retention of natural grape acid before some later season warmth allowed some real fruit presence to develop.

This wine comes from a blend of shriaz grapes from select parcels of vineyards including ‘Workshop’, ‘Angus Brae’, ‘Narrow Road’ and ‘Three Springs’. Angus Brae is located in Altona between Rowland Flat and Lyndoch, named after Ed Schild’s grandson (Michael’s eldest). Narrow Road Vineyard sits high on the hills behind the township of Rowland Flat, adjascent to the original Schild homestead that was purchased and settle by Ben and Alma Schild in 1952. Three Springs Farm is also close to the original family Estate. At 380m above sea level these are traditionally much lower yielding than those planted on the Barossa floor meaning the fruit produced is often of a higher quality.

At Schild Estate you can still shake hands with family members from three generations who have become the family's heart. Schild Estate wines are created with authenticity and passion. From real earth in the Southern Barossa by generations of a family who have made that place their home.

Food Pairing: Cassoulet or a toasted ham and cheese sandwich if you’re feeling lazy!
