Description

  • French & American oak
  • Baked raspberries
  • Cloves & earth
  • Grippy tannins

"Estate-grown, hand-picked, matured in American and French oak for 15 months, from a stalwart of the region. Good colour; the complex bouquet ranges through black berry/ cherry fruit, spice and Coonawarra earth, which all appear in the full-bodied, balanced and long palate. The tannin structure is in tune with the oak, adding the icing to the cake. Regarded by Zema as outstanding" James Halliday, Wine Companion 2020

"Some wines offer value time after time yet continue to sneak under tha radar. I find Zema Estate wines don't get the credit they deserve at times. This Shiraz is a beauty, as was the Cluny 2016. A wine which will reward patience, but it is good to go now as well. But if you do choose to tuck into it now, give this a decant to see it at its best. It's a spicy Shiraz - red fruits and berries are deep rooted within. Red currants and red cherries plus baked raspberries meet char, cloves, cedar and woodsy spices. Those spices steer proceedings to a longer than expected finish. After two and three days of tasting it softened immeasurable. There's still some tannin grip, but that fruit now glides with absolute easy. A terrific Shiraz!" Qwine, Jul 2020

This wine was made from fruit which was harvested at its optimum maturity. The wine was fermented for 7 days under controlled temperatures in a combination of rotary and static fermenters. Maturation for 14 months in small French and American oak barrels has assisted in the development of a wine that shows vibrancy and richness.

Coonawarra is renowned for its remarkable 'terra rossa' soil, a thin metre band of soil over laying a deep formation of limestone. The Zema family is proudly traditional in its approach to vineyard practices, favouring hand pruning and limited irrigation to maximise fruit quality. These practices are enhanced by the family's three strategically selected prime vineyard locations, capitalising on the regions subtle climatic variations.

The Zema family has been consistently producing exceptional hand crafted Coonawarra wines since 1982.

Food Pairing: Lamb chops, roast beef.
