Awarded Top 10: No. 1 Pinot Noir

Cuisine Magazine, Issue 194, May 2019

Description

"Dense, bright and reasonably oaky Pinot Noir with plum, dark berry, thyme, anise, spice, mineral and subtle floral flavours. A stylish wine with typical cool-climate Alexandra attributes but more accessible than many. Should age well" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Jun 2019

"This plush and concentrated wine displays layers of ripe cherry, dried thyme, a whiff of toast and a sweet silkiness elegantly draped over a chalky tannin structure. The wine needs time, yet it is certainly beautifully set up to age with dignity" Cuisine Magazine, Issue 194, May 2019

"Complex and stylish, the engaging bouquet shows dark cherry, spiced plum, game, olive and cedar characters. The palate is succulent and rounded with excellent fruit purity backed by seductive savoury nuances, leading to a persistent silky finish. Wonderfully composed and poised. At its best: now to 2023" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Full, even, dark ruby-red colour with slight purple hues, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is softly full with freshly ripe aromas of dark raspberry fruit and dark plums along with a very fine line with an amalgam of dark herbs and violet florals. This is bright and youthful in expression. Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich, juicy and plump fruit flavours of dark-red berry fruit with raspberries, dark plums and suggestions of liquorice. This has a thread of dark herbs and aromatic red floral notes adding interest. This is plush and sweetly  rich with fine, grainy tannins underlining the fruit providing balanced structure and some grip. Theacidity is soft and integrated. The wine carries to a soft, rich, gently mouthfilling finish. This is a plush, plump and juicy. Ripe Pinot Noir with raspberry and plum flavours with subtle herb and floral nuances on a fine-structured palate. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 5-6+ years" Raymond Chan

A delectably dark ruby red in the glass, this Pinot Noir is brimming with rich red fruit flavour undercut with a fresh herbal, floral note. Slight spiced and elegantly textured, this wine is not one to miss.

This hand crafted wine comes from the best fruit from the cooler 2017 vintage. A lack of warmth through April made ripening the grapes a challenge, but it presented the winemaker with smaller berries leading to deeper concentration of flavours.

The wine spent 9 months on barrel, 24% new oak, and the characteristics of thyme and cherry reflect the site nicely. The wine will impress now but also will reward a few years in the cellar.
