Description
Intense and deep purple red colour in the glass with a very expressive fruit nose. The bouquet showcases outstanding mature berries, with forest fruit joined by delicate hints of coffee and toast coming from the barrels. From the start, it’s a remarkable expression of Carmenere thanks to the typical fruit like plums, blackberries and some spicy touches. The tannins are polished and long with a medium body at the end.
Harvested from the Central Valley, where the vines grow in riverbench and benchland associated soils. In the winery juice was aged in oak barrels.
This variety disappeared from its place of origin in Médoc, north of Bordeaux, France following the phylloxera outbreak in the 19th century. It reappeared in Chile at the end of the 20th Century. In Casillero del Diablo Carmenere is smooth and delicate with intense color, smooth, round tannins, and attractive aromas of black currant and chocolate. Ideal with aged cheese. The Central Valley territory is recognized around the world for the extraordinary quality of the red wines produced there. The excellent soil conditions plus the optimal climate throughout the year create the perfect terroir for the production of several of Casillero del Diablo’s red varieties.
Food Pairing: It expresses marvelously well with game meat, garnished with sweet-and sour sauces and berries.
