As canny wine buyers know, the word Villages on a Côtes du Rhône label indicates a step up in quality and wines of richer fruit and depth. That is certainly the case of this top vintage Signargues red – lush and velvety with long blackberry ripeness.

Description

"Richly fruited and opulent, this is a gorgeous expression showing dark fruit, smoked game, roasted hazelnut, cocoa and black olive characters on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate that is fleshy and velvety. The wine offers lovely complexity and expansive mouthfeel, finishing long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2018

"A bold sweet ripe nose of blueberry, cherry with lovely leathery hints, the palate is full of juicy red berries, firm but delicious tannin, and a crushed rock minerality, finishing with long satisfying elegance." Decanter Magazine.

If you want generous, ripe fruit and spice in your wine, similar to a Châteauneuf but not quite the intensity and at a more friendly price, look for Signargues. This village appellation, midway between Avignon and the Roman aqueduct of the Pont du Gard. Maison Bouachon favoured vineyards in the village of Signargues the soil is similar to that in Châteauneuf, with boulder-like stones that trap heat during the day and release it to the vines at night, helping to ripen grapes to perfection. Grenache brings plump red fruit and white pepper character, while Syrah lends smoky blackberry notes and a spicy edge.

A classic Southern French blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre.

Food Pairing: Serve with rack of lamb or a hearty stew.

A beautifully crafted example of Cotes du Rhone Villages, fantastic balance, and will develop nicely over the next few years.

A genuine taste of the Rhone and great at the price. Comparison to Ch Neuf du Pape a little extravagant I thiink!
