Description

"Wonderfully expressive and beautifully fruited, this likable merlot shows aromas of dark plum, blueberry, mixed spice and dark chocolate on the nose. The palate is equally appealing, and displays supple mouthfeel and silky texture, framed by fine tannins. A lovely expression of the variety offering excellent drinkability. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2016

A lovely expression of the variety offering excellent drinkability. This Mystery Merlot namesake helped open the world up to exciting new horizons of travel and adventure and these Mystery wine makers encourage you to do the same for your tastebuds with this opulent and appealing wine. Wonderfully expressive and beautifully fruited, this likeable Merlot shows plum, sweet spice, dark chocolate and vanilla on the nose.

This vintage saw three individual parcels from this Mystery vineyard being fermented and matured in barrel separately, before individual barrels were carefully selected based on quality of texture, tannins and above all freshness of fruit flavour and aromas. Most of the fruit came from this Mystery vineyard's oldest vines, part of their original planting in 1991. These vines contribute depth and richness to the final wine. Whilst the fruit from the younger vines provided vibrancy and beautiful colour. In the winery warm fermentation of up to 28c and extended skin contact maximised texture, weight and complexity. These varietal characters of this wine maybe enjoyed when the wine is young however some clelaring will result in a more rounded complex wine.

Food Pairing: Ideally suited to red meat dishes and those casual pizza and pasta dinners.

Nice fruit, light to medium bodied merlot from a very good smallish winery. Not as complex as some of their other red blends but good easy drinking.
