Convinced of the extraordinary potential of this region, oenologist, Laurent Calmel, and Jerome Joseph work together on the winemaking, blending and ageing of wines with the common purpose of demonstrating the little known yet unique quality of these Mediterranean terroirs.

Description

"Full, dark, deep, black-hued garnet-red colour, near impenetrable, a little lighter on the rim.  The nose is elegantly proportioned with well-concentrated aromas of rich, black-berried fruits with notes of dark raspberries, hints of boysenberries with a suggestion of plum jam, lifted by dark-red florals.  Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich, vibrant and juicy flavours of ripe blackberries and dark raspberries, hints of boysenberries and black pepper with notes of jam and lifted florals.  The flavours form a finely concentrated core and the fruit is underlined by fine-grained tannin structure with integrated acidity.  The fruit richness blossoms and carries to a long and sustained finish.  This is an elegantly concentrated, ripe Cotes du Roussillon Villages with blackberry, boysenberry and raspberry fruit on a very fine-structured palate.  Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 6-8 years.   A blend of 40% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 20% Carignan and 10% Mourvedre, 40% of the fruit from clay-limestone, and 30% each from schist and sandstone, hand-picked, destemmed and fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged in concrete tank" Raymond Chan, May 2018

"Baked plums. Deep, tarry, mulberry and roasted walnuts. Swarthy, dry tannins, spicier too, than on the other Les Terroirs wines. Needs more time to come around. Fantastic freshness though." Jancis Robinson, Master of Wine

"Magnificently fruited and expressed, the gorgeous bouquet shows blackberry, dried cherry, smoked game, tobacco and roasted nut characters, leading to a concentrated palate that dense and delectable. The wine offers power and opulence, firmly structured by fine, chalky tannins. Needs a seriously rich meat dish. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Feb 2018

A super tasty blend of Syrah 40%, Grenache 30%, Carignan 20% and Mourvèdre 10%.

A brilliant deep purple red colour. The nose, typical of this appellation bordering with Spain whose vines spread over the foothills of the Pyrenees, harbours black fruit and notes of garrigue with juniper and spices offering the powerful fragrance that is specific to the Roussillon. Generous, with cinnamon, liquorice and white pepper, followed by hints of blackberry and blackcurrant with a beautifully fresh, lightly menthol finish. Excellent balance with great harmony between maturity, freshness and silky tannins. A wine that is typically Mediterranean and superbly elegant at the same time.

Founded in 1995, Calmel & Joseph is a maison de négoce specializing in Languedoc-Roussillon wines from private wineries from across the region.
