Description

Mid straw colour in the glass with a complex and compelling nose showing white peach, citrus and nutty characters. Long and weighty, with vibrant citrus
fruit characters to add freshness on the palate. Whilst a toasty finish rounds out this complex palate.

Since 1906 when founder -Marino Selak- first arrived in New Zealand from his native Croatia Selaks has developed a range that encompasses a comprehensive range of wines, earning numerous accolades along the way. However, since the first vines were planted, one thing has remained the same: Marino Selak’s most treasured grapes were blended into a wine that he kept especially for his family and friends. Over 80 years later, Head Winemaker Brett Fullerton honours this tradition producing the very best wines with his unique 'Founders' range.

The 2016 vintage of the Founders Chardonnay hails from Selaks Airstrip Vineyard at the tip of the Bridge Pa Triangle, where the soil type includes gravel and shallow clay-loam with underlying free draining pumice, making it a truly unique growing region. After a slow start consistent warm days between January and March closed out this vintage with great conditions lasting right up to harvest in April.

Grapes were hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. No no skin contact was required before transferring straight to French Oak barriques (34% new). Additionally, no yeast was added, relying purely on natural fermentation to retain and enhance quality Chardonnay flavour characteristics.

Food pairing: A winning combination with steak bernaise or pumpkin ravioli.
