Description
A brilliant white-gold colour, the 2016 vintage of this Riesling offers fragrant aromas of honeysuckle, chalk and jasmine blossom. On the palate, a rich entry with flavours of Meyer lemon and mandarin is balanced by a precise mineral acidity.
Martinborough is at the southern end of New Zealand’s North Island. Martinborough is protected from the harsh elements by a range of mountains to the southwest and west creating a climate that is mild, breezy, dry and ideal for cool-climate grapes. Most of the premier vineyards are planted on stony terraces that provide exceptional drainage and high mineral content. At Te Kairanga, we have 250 acres of vines planted at four vineyard sites in the Martinborough appellation. This diversity provides our winemaking team with a wide array of aromatics, flavours, textures and styles to work with.All of our properties are sustainably farmed.
Under the direction of Chief Winemaker, John Kavanagh, Te Kairanga's winemaking philosophy places a premium on the character of the site. The grapes are harvested block by block and vinified individually with punch-downs and gentle pressing to ensure full extraction without sacrificing elegance. Stainless steel aging and minimal fining and filtration help preserve both varietal character and the inimitable personality of the terroir.
