Description
Intense and pure aromas of lime zest, white peach and white flowers are dominant on the nose. The palate shows flavours of grapefruit, honeysuckle and mandarin, and a fine persistent line of acidity gives the wine great length.
Delicious with caramelized onion and goats cheese tart or Asian inspired cuisine, twice cooked Szechuan pork belly being a favourite.
The climate in Marlborough has high sunshine hours, but temperatures during the growing season are regulated by the cooling ocean influence. The 2015 season was warm and dry in Marlborough with cooler temperatures during flowering early in the season resulting in naturally low yielding vines which produced fruit with ideal ripeness and intense flavours.
Riesling grapes are well suited to the Marlborough climate due to cooler autumn temperatures and cold nights intensifying acidity and pure fruit flavours.
Mixture of hand picked, whole bunch pressed fruit and machine picked fruit during the night when fruit is cool to retain aromatics.
The grapes selected for 2015 Cellar Selection Riesling came from a mixture of Awatere and Wairau valley vineyard sites, all selected for the stony, free draining gravel soils.
