Kim Crawford East Coast Unoaked Chardonnay 2014

Kim Crawford East Coast Unoaked Chardonnay 2014

An approachable, full-bodied Chardonnay
$13.99p/Btl

Description

Lifted aromas of grapefruit and peach open up to notes of tropical fruit and pineapple. An approachable, full-bodied Chardonnay that shows great fruit, length, and persistence. Medium weight with a creamy texture and hints of butterscotch and lemon meringue pie show through in a style uncluttered by oak.

The exceptional fruit flavour of this Chardonnay is delicious paired with fresh seafood, white meat dishes, and Camembert cheese.

Unoaked Chardonnay was the first ever Kim Crawford wine, first made in 1996. The original vision was to harness all of the citrus, stonefruit, buttery flavour, and creaminess of Chardonnay, but without oak flavor, in a fresh, drinkable style. And that philosophy holds true today. It was one of the first, and remains one of the most enjoyable unoaked Chardonnays of the New World.

This wine is the perfect balance of the fresh citrus flavours of Marlborough and the richer stonefruit flavours of Hawke’s Bay. Clonal selection in the vineyard is important in this style as we seek intense tropical fruit coupled with citrus characteristics. We ferment cold (12°C) in temperature controlled stainless steel to truly capture all of the bright Chardonnay flavours from the fruit. This succulent, well-rounded Chardonnay is uncluttered by oak, yet has a nuttiness and generous mouthfeel provided by 5 months lees aging. Approximately 80% of the vineyard selections undergo malolactic fermentation to soften the acidity and contribute buttery notes.
