Description

“Very full, near impenetrable black-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has a full and densely packed nose of ripe black berry and dark raspberry fruits lifted by dark red florals and complexed by harmoniously interwoven mineral, tar and smoke detail. Medium full-bodied and elegantly proportioned, rich and intense fruit flavours of blackberries, raspberries, florals and minerals are balanced and supported by very fine-grained, supple and silky tannins. The palate has freshness and vitality, the ripe acidity enhancing the fruit sweetness and the wine carries to a smooth lingering finish of raspberries, tar and minerals. This is an elegant, succulent, satin-textured Shiraz with ripeness and vibrancy.” Raymond Chan

Dark black impenetrable core. Aromas of black forest cake, red currants and blueberries bound from the glass. Spicy oak, with softened marshmallows and cherries appearing with time. Dense and full-bodied with flavours of cherries, blackberries and chocolate. Velvety and powdery tannins channel the wine's focus.

Uncut refers to the uncut gem in its raw form, nothing added from vineyard to bottle. It’s a true expression of McLaren Vale Shiraz from quality vineyards grown bio-dynamically. This wine will give you drinking pleasure over the next decade.

Gemtree is a family-owned winery located in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Committed to sustainable viticulture, the winery and vineyard are certified organic and follow biodynamic principles. For the family it is not just about winemaking…it is about setting new standards for sustainable, generational farming. "We see ourselves as custodians of the land and we want to leave it in a better condition than we found it. We want our legacy to live on for our children."

Rather than use herbicides and pesticides, Gemtree uses sheep to tend to weeds and wood ducks to deal with insects. Two alpacas act as shepherds and their dung is used to fertilise the vines. . Gemtree achieved organic certification in November 2011 and is currently certified by Australian Certified Organics. Melissa Brown, the viticulturist, started farming biodynamically in 2007 but took a very pragmatic approach to the transition. They started slowly and now after several years have noticed a big difference in the health of the vineyard and quality of fruit.
