"Intense, fragrant, vibrant wine with cassis, black cherry, dark chocolate, wood smoke, violet and spicy oak flavours supported by firm, ripe tannins that suggest good ageing potential. The wine opened up as it sat in the glass and would benefit from decanting" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Jun 2023

"This is a fabulous wine, with a complex bouquet without missing the all important signature of variety, aromas of wild flowers and ripe red berry fruits, layers of wood spice and stoney mineral complexities. There’s a fine layer of mystery and intrigue that siganls further exporation. On the palate flavours of dried herbs and barrel spices, dark cherry and wild plums, there’s a savoury wild thyme component and earthy core that builds on the complexity and youthfull charms. Firm tannins and acidity create the back bone and need time to integrate more. Lengthy, detailed and well made, a wine for drinkers of fine Pinot Noir and collectors. Best drinking from 2025 through 2035+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Jul 2023

Classic Pisa sub regional flavours of deep, plush dark and cherry fruits complemented by a mineral streak. A structural, earthy palate brought on by the low yielding vintage adds a complex savoury edge that allows the wine to evolve in bottle and age extremely well.

Over the years of growing on our Estate we have been impressed with the evolution of our block 7C Pinot Noir vines which are growing in the Lochar sandy loams soils with subsurface midrow irrigation and cover crops. This is our 6th release of a barrel selection from this site and third year BioGro certified organic Pinot Noir release.

Mild winter conditions resulted in early budburst and strong early season growth. A warm spring with a distinct lack of wind allowed for strong canopy growth and Pisa avoided the frosts that hit other areas. Flowering began in early December along with winds thats disrupted some of the whites flowering. January began with a heavy rain event and the ensuing humid conditions resulted in some powdery mildew appearing. Fine weather through the remainder of the growing season allowed for beautiful ripening and whilst the crop was lower than usual, the quality of the fruit was excellent. Judicious hand harvesting and sorting, resulted in very high quality fruit entering the winery.

A moderatley warm year with lower yields brought about small concentrated berries with wonderul tannins, structure and a tight acid line. Dark fruits, cherries and baking spices are present through a combination of whole bunch and whole berry fermented fruit. Coiled and savoury, the wine offers wonderful aging potential. The wine was aged in french oak barriques on lees for 14 months before blending to showcase the best of the vintage and estate for 2021.
