Description

  • French oak
  • Mulberry & plum
  • Mocha & violet
  • Soft tannins

This is a classic McLaren Vale Shiraz. A bright nose of mulberry, mocha and blackberry bramble follows through to a soft and vibrant palate offering up plum, dark cherry and soft oak, with a violet lift. The Redstone is a fruit driven shiraz made to enjoy in its youth, though will cellar well. Tannins are soft and approachable with great fruit length.

Redstone Shiraz is produced from three vineyards in McLaren Vale each contributing complexity to the final blend. The bright fruit character from our Blewitt Springs vineyard, the savoury structure from the Coriole Estate vineyard and the earthy richness from our vineyard in Willunga. Redstone refers to the local ironstone so common in the soils and buildings of McLaren Vale.

2021 will be sure to be remembered as one of the great vintages in McLaren Vale. The vintage started off well with slightly above average rainfall through the winter and spring of 2020. Once the growing season commenced, we had healthy vines, and mild conditions through spring and summer. Vintage kicked off in mid-February and a well-spaced vintage saw the last fruit picked in mid-April. We had average yields across most white varieties with the resulting wines showing great clarity of aromatics. In shiraz, fantastic fruit condition and even ripening made life easy in the winery where we could watch each block express its identity - bright fruit and juicy flavours, with ripe, full tannin structures and impressive length of flavour.

The winemaking results in a softer, juicier shiraz, with more subtle tannins than is typical from our Estate grown range. Aged in French oak for 12 months, this is a balanced and very drinkable style.

Food Pairing: Greek cuisine pairs beautifully with this wine... try a slow roasted lamb shoulder generously studded with rosemary, garlic and lemon. Serve it with torn pita, chargrilled vegetables and lashings of garlic sauce.
