Description

  • Subtle oak
  • Dry style
  • Grapefruit
  • Creamy vanilla

"One of the better Hawke's Bay barrel-fermented sauvignon blancs that I have tasted. Subtle nectarine and tree fruit flavours mingle with a distinct oyster-shell and mineral character with subliminal oak. A good food wine. Bone-dry with a mouth-watering finish. Will repay cellaring" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Jun 2021

On the nose, the wine exhibits fragrant elderflower, grapefruit, basil and passionfruit notes with richer underlying stonefruit characters. This is complimented by subtle oak bringing and underlying creamy / vanillan richness. On the palate the wine is full, finely textured and persistent with a slightly dry, flinty edge.

Church Road embraces Old World winemaking with one arm and technological advancements with the other. And it all begins with fruit grown in Hawke's Bay. Church Road Winery, renowned for being the first in New Zealand to craft exceptional quality Bordeaux style red wine, pioneered the creation of the Hawke’s Bay wine industry. Church Road wines are crafted using the most exceptional quality fruit from vineyards across Hawke’s Bay, together with traditional winemaking techniques to create highly acclaimed award-winning wines.

Church Road Grand Reserve wines are produced only in exceptional vintages. The very best low-cropping vineyard blocks are targeted for selective hand-harvesting to yield wines with the greatest possible flavour, depth and concentration. In the winery these wines are made using small batch, traditional winemaking techniques that emphasise texture, structure and subtle complexity, while still letting the fruit shine through.

Food Pairing: This wine matches a wider range of foods than the lighter crisper styles. Great with a range of seafoods including richer dishes such as scallops or crayfish. Try with fresh and vibrant salads and vegetables, including fennel, tomato, basil, parsley, rocket, capers, green beans and asparagus and good quality Mozzarella cheese. It also works well with richer poultry dishes and butter based sauces such as beurre blanc.
