Great with red meat dishes but especially good with game, especially duck & venison

"Fantastic colour and bouquet with aromas of violets and baked raspberries, there’s a core mineral quality with baked stones and a dried clay quality. There’s also a sweet fresh meaty quality along with a plum and dark chocolate layer. Lovely texture and intensity as the wine touches the palate. Flavours and texture s of tannin and acidity flowe through the palate seemlessly. Fresh, youthful, mineral and fruity with spices, some intense lees quality and a some mild toasty wood qualities. Youthful and needing some more cellar time, but a delicious wine today as well. best dirnking from 2023 through 2030" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Feb 2022
"Undressed' refers to the fact that the wine has been made without the addition of sulphites. Deep, almost inky, juicy syrah with ripe plum, dark berry, black berry, red rose, black peppercorn and liquorice flavours. An accessible wine in a drink-me-now style" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Mar 2022
Deep ruby red colour. Sweet, dense black fruit together with hints of spice. The wine has rich boysenberry, blackberry and blueberry flavours. It has a smooth finish, and soft tannins.
2021 was another amazing vintage, a great follow up to 2019 and 2020 and equal to, if not better than, both the preceding years. Flowering was very good, and in the main part we were not affected by frosts. Throughout the vintage the weather was settled, with a warm spring and early summer and hot, dry conditions which continued right through the summer. There were no rain events around vintage which meant we had the luxury of picking when flavour ripeness was at its optimum.
Fermented in open-top stainless steel fermenters. Hand plunged two times daily. Post fermentation soak for two to three weeks followed by maturation in barrel. Matured in seasoned French oak for 5 months without adding any sulphur (nor was sulphur added at bottling).
Stonecroft has the oldest Syrah vines in New Zealand. These vines were rescued by the founder of Stoncroft, Dr. Alan Limmer, from the Te Kauwhata Research station and planted at Stonecroft in 1984. For the Undressed Syrah this year, we set used a single parcel of fruit from our Mere Road vineyard and did not add any sulphur at bottling.
