Description

  • American & French oak
  • Ripe pear & pineapple
  • Crème brulée
  • Ripe juicy finish

"Richly fruited and immediately appealing, the wine shows golden peach, baked fig, vanillin oak and butterscotch characters on the nose. It's equally satisfying on the palate  delivering terrific fruit weight and intensity, wonderfully complemented by smooth texture and juicy acidity, finishing delicious and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2026" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2022

The 2020 Clay Creek Vineyards California Chardonnay consists of beautifully integrated aromas such as melon, ripe pear and vanilla, highlighted by delicate hints of white flowers. Bright and balanced, this full-bodied Chardonnay displays flavours of peach, honeydew melon, pineapple and crème brulée. The taste has a lovely, complex structure and good acidity, which leads to a rich, ripe juicy finish.

The Chardonnay grapes were carefully selected from diverse vineyards in California. The vineyards are blended from cool and warm climates to create complexity and layers of flavour.

The 2020 vintage was ideal for producing high quality wines, the vineyard temperatures were consistent, warm days and cool nights. Fruit development progressed at an even pace allowing for the grapes to ripen while maintaining bright, fresh, clean fruit flavours.

Picking decisions are based on winemaker evaluation, vineyard condition and proper flavour ripeness. The winemakers tend to pick on the mid to late side to promote the tropical flavours and to retain the natural acids. The juice is clarified and racked to stainless steel tanks for fermentation, a portion of which is fermented and aged on a combination of French and American oak for six months.
