Description

  • French & Slavonian oak
  • Cherry & rose
  • Medium bodied
  • Sandy tannins

"Beautifully fruited and enticing, the bouquet shows sweet cherry, cured meat, floral and green olive characters. The elegantly weighted palate offers juicy fruit notes combined with subtle savoury nuances, well supported by fine polished tannins, finishing long and pleasingly dry. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2021

"Cherries, spice, perfume of thyme and lavender. Medium-bodied, savoury and slightly tart cherry in flavour profile, some dried herb and floral perfume, smooth-ish suede-like tannin, and an earthy sort of finish of decent length. It’s a little friskier than some vintages, but goes all right" Gary Walsh

Fragrant, lifted fruits of the forest overlaid by notes of cherry and dried rose. This is a medium weight wine, very well balanced with super fresh fruit character, sandy tannins and a clip of acidity delivering excellent Italian drinkability. It finishes dry and savoury.

A red blend of 75% Barbera 25% Nebbiolo sourced from younger vineyards within the area of production of the villages of Barbaresco and Barolo given the Langhe Appellation.

2018 has been hailed as one of the best since 2000 and certainly a change of fortune as the previous vintage was notably seen as one of the worst in memory. Despite challenging conditions with fluctuating weather such as spring frosts and early summer rainfall it became stable prior to summer harvest. Both quantity and quality was rated as exceptional.

Vinified separately with each parcel naturally fermented in stainless steel. The Nebbiolo isimmediately separated from skins whilst the Barbera receives a further week maceration. The fruit is matured independently in a mix of small French oak casks and large Slavonian oak for eight months before blending and a further four months ageing in large oak casks.

Piedmont, in the foothills of the Alps in the north west of Italy, is home to the country’s finest full-bodied red wines. The greatest wines are made from the extremely long lived Nebbiolo. Barbera however is the most widely planted and popular variety, due to its fruit-driven expressiveness and youthful approachability.

Food Pairing: This is a very approachable wine that will match brilliantly with food as well being great on its own. The perfect pasta or pizza wine.
