Located on the Murray River at Loxton, the Barich family have a beautiful organic vineyard which produces wonderful Chardonnay. The grapes from this vineyard are combined with grapes from the Carypidis family vineyard at Angle Vale who have produced high quality Chardonnay for Yalumba for many years. From the 2018 vintage, they are joined by the Strachan Vineyard in Renmark, who like the Carypidis Family are long term growers. Meticulous work in the vineyards ensures that the grapes are in perfect condition when they are picked.
A cool, dry winter followed by mild conditions in spring and early summer allowed the Chardonnay grapes to slowly ripen. Warmer weather in mid-January led to the even ripening of grapes with great flavours and natural acidity.
Their certified organic Chardonnay is made without the use of chemical fertilisers or pesticides in the vineyard. The wine was wild fermented using only natural yeasts present in the vineyard and on the grape skins, creating extra layers of complexity and flavour.
Food Pairing: Spicy mussels and soba noodles or a lentil, sweet potato and chickpea stew.
