Description

  • French oak
  • Dark berries
  • Mushroom
  • Smooth texture

Dark red with violent hues. Dark berry fruits such as raspberry and blackberry. Complexity primarily comes from the savoury notes from the yeast lees aging and the fermentation solids that have carried through to barrel. These aromas encompass beef stock, soy and even mushroom. The palate is medium bodied for a red wine. The flavours are a combination of the aromatic notes on the nose and taste aspects on the palate. This Syrah is dry to taste, has a bright acidity and a smooth texture. The finish is long and full.

These wines are made in partnership with selected Hawke’s Bay growers. This wine showcase the best qualities of the Hawke’s Bay wine region.

All fruit was hand-harvested and destemmed to open top fermenters. The grapes were ‘cold soaked’ for seven days before undergoing a quick fermentation with natural vineyard yeasts. After fermentation the young wine was pressed to tank before draining to French oak barrels-20% were new. Malo-lactic fermentation was completed in barrel and the wine left to age on full lees. After 10 months of aging the barrels were blended and the wine bottled.

Food Pairing: Enjoy this wine with savoury meat dishes cooked with Asian spices.

Good Syrah, quite savoury in style with a little depth drinking very well now.
