Description

  • French oak
  • Red berry & violet
  • Chocolate & spice
  • Fine tannins

"Delightfully fruited and perfumed, the bouquet shows blackberry, ripe strawberry, olive and roasted nut aromas, followed by a beautifully rounded palate that's supple and silky. Fruit expressive and immediately appealing" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Feb 2021

Deep purple colour with aromatic notes of red berry and blackcurrants framed by violet and enticing cedarwood spice. The palate is dense and plush with flavours of plum, chocolate, blueberry and spice with a supple, slippery mouthfeel framed by subtle oak toast and fine tannins.

The Elephant in the Room wines are proudly large in scale and expansive in flavour. Ignoring fashion and braving the scorn of “wine thought police”, Elephant in the Room was created to give consumers exactly what they want – full bodied and mouth-filling wines that deliver maximum pleasure. Sourced from low yielding vineyards in Langhorne Creek and partially matured in French Oak before final blending and bottling by Corey Ryan

2020 had its challenges with a dry start and only a small portion of rain and with much of the country suffering drought conditions. The warm dry spell continued in December with some extreme hot temperature days recorded. It was a late ripening year and yields were down but despite the challenges it was another excellent vintage across South Australia.

Sourced from a selection of mature, dry-grown vineyards in Langhorne Creek managed by Jim Zerella. The fruit is partially hand-harvested before de-stemming and cool fermentation in small two tonne open fermenters with regular hand plunging. Matured in seasoned French oak (20% new French) for six months before bottling with minimal filtration and sulphur addition.

Food Pairing: A generous wine, packed full of flavour that would pair perfectly with roast lamb.
