Description
- Medium dry style
- French oak
- Lychee & mango
- Orange marmalade
The nose is wonderfully pronounced and complex with a beguiling blend of exotic spice with lychee, mango, citrus and orange marmalade. The palate is rich, rounded and full-bodied with a lovely intensity and balanced with a gentle, citrus acidity. The flavours echo the aromas, clinging to the mouth and finishing with a gentle sweetness. A highly memorable wine.
This Gewürztraminer is from the company’s original vineyard, planted in 1982, that surrounds the winery. These unirrigated vines are deeply rooted in clay soils which help to give the wine intensity, weight and body, resulting in a rich, mouth-coating texture.
These grapes were harvested in perfected condition during a wonderfully warm harvest. They were gently crushed and then pressed to French barriques and allowed to undergo spontaneous fermentation with yeasts that were naturally present. The wine was left to rest on lees for several months before bottling here at the winery later in the year.
Food Pairing: Salmon, spicy dishes, coconut-based curries, patés and terrines, sweeter vegetables such as pumpkin and kumara, strong flavoured, soft, ripe, white cheeses.
