Description

  • French oak
  • Mulberry & blackcurrant
  • Subtle cedar
  • Fine-grained tannins

"Like the regular 2014 Cabernet, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Family Selection is already bricking a bit at the rim. Notes of oak, cedar and spice cake appear on the nose, dominating the flavors of dried fruit. This medium to full-bodied red is open-knit and ready to drink now, despite still having some dusty tannins on the finish" Wine Advocate, Feb 2019

Attractive vibrant dark purple with reddish hue. Mint, mulberry and blackcurrant aromas on the bouquet. Rich and concentrated with appealing blackberry fruit characters enriched by subtle cedary and well-integrated French oak. Excellent balance and superb complexity with natural acidity and fine-grained tanins.

The Family Selection wines represent the cream of the Zema crop. The process logically starts in the vineyard through careful monitoring during the ripening period. Outstanding parcels of fruit are then selected for their intensity and varietal flavour.

Coonawarra is well renowned for its remarkable 'terra rossa' soi, a thin metre band of soil over laying a deep formation of limestone. The Zema family is proudly traditional in its approach to vineyard practices with carefully controlled cropping levels and hand pruning yielding fruit of the highest quality. These practices are enhanced by the family's three strategically selected vineyard locations, capitalising on the regions subtle variations.

Grape growing and winemaking has been a large part of the Zema Family history and heritage dating back to the 1800s. Zema Estate is a true Coonawarra wine company, forged in Australia but based on the undeniable passions and traditions of its Italian heritage. Over four decades it has developed a reputation for producing premium quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, with a consistency that defies vintage and seasonal fluctuations. The strong Zema values that launched the winery have not changed - hand-pruning to nurture and foster each individual vine, careful fruit selection to ensure quality, enriching the fruit flavours through selected winemaking techniques, utilising the best oak barrels available and diligent bottle aging.

Food Pairing:  Rack of lamb, rib eye steak, game meats and hard cheeses.
