Description

  • French oak
  • Nutty spice
  • White stone fruit
  • Long finish

"Rich, weighty chardonnay with grapefruit, citrus, white peach, toasted nut, root ginger, hazelnut, oyster-shell and spicy oak flavours. A quite intense and certainly very complex wine that is accessible now but will certainly benefit from at least moderate cellaring" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Oct 2020

"This classy wine was estate-grown in Northland, hand-picked and fermented and matured for 11 months in French oak barriques.  Bright, light lemon/green, it is refined and full-bodied, with deep, vibrant peach and grapefruit flavours, mealy and toasty notes adding complexity, and a lingering finish.  A very age-worthy wine, it should be at its best 2023" Winestate Magazine

Attractive citrus and stone fruit aromatics sit perfectly with a hint of nutty spice. On the palate the wine has a full profile with more white stone fruit and spice. A racy stony minerality creates a lovely long finish with drying tannins that just beg for your glass to be filled again.

The Landing Vineyard on the Purerua Peninsula has been farmed for over a century, the Chardonnay vines have been selectively planted on the dry north-facing slopes that naturally moderate vigour ensuring high quality, well-balanced wines. Harvested from a mix of Chardonnay clones B95, 548, and UCD15 vines growing in the greywacke clay soils of the Purerua Peninsula, the 2019 vintage came from an outstanding growing season. The grapes for this Chardonnay were hand-picked between February 16 and March 8.

The 2019 Vintage has opened the window to just how great Northland Chardonnay from the site can be. This perfect growing season produced an austere, elegant and refined style.

The Landing Chardonnay is made from hand-picked estate-grown fruit, which is whole-bunch pressed and fermented in French oak barriques. After 11 months in oak, the wine is blended to tank to finish ageing.

Winemakers believe that New Zealand has the ability to grow some of the best Chardonnay in the world. Their ambition is to create a distinct Northland style that embraces vintage variation and is true to the site.
