Description

  • Semi-sweet style
  • Honey
  • Subtle grapefruit
  • Lime & orange pith

"Bright, medium gold-yellow, even colour throughout. The nose is softly full, complex and fresh; aromas of honey, apricot, lime marmalade, melded with mineral, lime flower enriched by a soft note of petroleum. Medium-full bodied, medium-dry to taste, the palate is bright and clean with lime, lime marmalade, apricot, complexed by cereals, hay and honey, along with lime flower and mineral. The wine is developed and complex with a wide range of tertiary aromas; hay, cereals and nuts. Supportive acidity is mouthwatering, softened and crisp, showing vigour and persistent, lending on a supple, refreshing honeyed finish. This is a satisfying Riesling with complex aromas, crisp acidity and persistent. Match with Parmesan-macadamia-crusted pork chops over the next 3 years" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Mar 2021

The 2013 Liaison Riesling is golden yellow in appearance, a crisp clean nose with aromas of honey, kerosene and lemon skin with underlying notes of grapefruit. On the palate the wine has a well textured mouthfeel with flavours of lime and orange pith and a great acidity which is balanced by the sweetness of the fruit and a residual sugar of 48g/L.

Mountford Estate was established in 1991 by Buffy and Michael Eaton who chose the site for its elevation and active limestone soils. The 2013 Liaison Riesling was some of the first wine to be made from the newly planted Riesling block on the estate. This fruit was blended with some from a reputable contract grower in the Waipara Valley who has supplied Mountford in the past.

At Mountford Estate they create wines of character and quality through a policy of watchful, non-interventionist winemaking. A combination of new and traditional techniques and technology are used. Mountford Estate has transitioned to using native yeasts, low sulphur and like all past vintages these wines continue with a no fining or filtration policy where possible.  They believe that this is the way to gain a true expression of site and vintage.

Im a bit reluctant to rate this wine due to it being totally outstanding and despite having bought many i'd still like the option of it being there when i could afford some more. So please, hands off, look elsewhere. One of the best rieslings i have tasted in my life (i'm 66)--A beautifully weighted rich textural wine bursting with very sweet ripe honeyed fruit, layered, long and intoxicatingly gorgeous and worth many times its asking price. At its peak now it will drink well for another five to ten years.

Well worth buying, just went for my second helping.

Gosh. Excellent wine with massive flavour balanced with balanced sweetness and oily mouth feel, all at a very reasonable price. I purchased another dozen. I recommend you purchase some before its gone!

Superb beautiful aged Riesling from a class producer at a bargin price. Real tension & characterful flavour. Just ordered a 2nd dozen. A rare find.

This wine punches way above its weight. It’s is almost a dessert wine (quite botrytis like) so it’s more than just a quaffer. I love it!

Neil - 23/11/2020

Delicious, mature and golden in colour. I loved it so much that I quickly ordered a second case!
