Description

  • Vibrant blackberry
  • Mulberries
  • Earthy undertones
  • Soft subtle tannins

"Upfront and captivating, the exuberant bouquet shows black/blueberry, cocoa, olive and cedar aromas. It’s concentrated and mouthfilling on the palate, displaying plush texture and layers of delectable flavours. Rich, opulent and very smooth. At its best: now to 2028" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2020

Clear medium purple in the glass. Expressive with scents of blackberries, mulberries and graphite, with a whiff of earthy undertones. Medium bodied with lovely freshness. Vibrant blackberry and plum seamlessly integrate with the soft subtle tannins. Will drink best in its first two years.

The Nessus Shiraz is a fragrant, bright, and full flavoured wine which displays all of the trademarks of a McLaren Vale Shiraz. It is also a wine that captures the soft, silky and seductive tannins which are a distinctive feature of Mitolo Shiraz wines.

The Nessus Shiraz is sourced from the winemakers vineyards at the southern end of McLaren Vale, close to the seaside town of Port Willunga. The rich, heavy clay soils and warm Summer days produce a deeply coloured, full flavoured wine with soft, silky tannins. Shiraz fruit for the Nessus is crushed immediately after delivery to the winery, and the skin and juice mix is then allowed to warm naturally over the coming days. Fermentation is kept cool in order to retain the primary fruit characters in the wine.

Matured in older oak barrels, the Nessus Shiraz has an unobscured purity, a boisterous wild side, that competes with the restraining natural acidity; juxtaposed opposites delicately balanced just like the emotions of its namesake Nessus the centaur.

Nessus was a centaur, a mythical half-horse halfman. Like all centaurs, Nessus was caught between two natures, the wild beast and the thoughtful teacher. Most famously, driven by his animal side, he made a bold play to steal the wife of Hercules. Ultimately, his clever plot ended tragically, with the death of both Nessus and Hercules.
