Description

  • Ripe plum
  • Hazelnut
  • Comforting
  • Dark cherry

"Sweetly fruited and fragrant, the wine shows ripe plum, dark cherry, floral and vanilla characters with nuances of smoked game and hazelnut. It’s succulent and supple on the palate, delivering smooth mouthfeel and silky tannins, making it comforting and highly enjoyable" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Blueberry, black current and raspberry fruit dominate the aromas that also flow delightfully to the palate. Vanilla bean, cedar and very soft cuddly tannins frame the forest berry fruit of this plush example of Nero dÁvola. The wine is rich in flavour and has a sheen to it that almost makes it slippery in the mouth with a flavour burst that seems to go for eternity.

Sourced from the Seaview subdistrict of McLare Vale where scattered deep red soils are interspersed with sand over fractured limestone.

The rains of the prior year re-invigorated the region causing vintage 2018 and its warm sunny days to be considered widely as excellent. Lower rainfall and an unusually dry summer had many growers choosing to irrigate from their plentiful stocks allowing the timely and appropriate application of water to vines. An even ripening period with only two days above 40 meant the berries have developed lovely characters, achieved optimum ripeness and still have finer natural acidities.

Hand-harvested, cold soaked and fermented in one and two tonne open fermenters with hand-plunging and twenty percent whole bunch. Matured in twenty percent new three hundred litre French Hogsheads for fifteen months before bottling using minimal filtration and without fining. This wine is suitable for vegans.

Four Horsemen McLaren Vale is a partnership between four people who all believe that growing organically and sustainably is the future of wine in a changing world. Sourcing from some of the finest old-vine vineyards in McLaren Vale, the Four Horsemen create compelling wines that are both regionally and varietally expressive.
