Description

"Brilliant light straw-yellow colour, pale on edge. The nose is fresh, tight and steely, with aromas of exotic white and yellow florals and subtle nuances of minerals. This has good depth and concentration, the purity of expression coming to the fore, revealing herbal and floral suggestions in the glass. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, bright, lively and zesty fruit flavours of white florals and citrus zest are enlivened by refreshing acidity. The fruit shows with intensity and concentration and is guided by very fine-textured phenolics and bright acidity, the wine flowing with a little grip. Mineral and flint detail emerges and leads to a long, lingering finish of florals and citrus notes. This is a fresh, lively, concentrated dry Viognier with exotic floral and citrussy fruit and some flinty detail. Serve with seafood and Asian fare over the next 3-4+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘HCE’ vineyard, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.8% alc. and dryness" Raymond Chan, Jul 2015

"The pale lemon/green 2014 Vintage was hand harvested from limestone terraces at Havelock North and handled without oak. Mouthfilling, it is still very youthful, with vibrant, ripe, peachy, slightly spicy flavours. A minerally streak, balanced acidity and a dry finish" Michael Cooper

A healthy straw colour which we expect to retain as the wine ages. Delicate notes of citrus blossom, quince and lychee alongside a seam of flinty minerality on the nose. On the palate, an elegant and refined balance of ripe, clean Viognier flavours and gentle acidity. Flavours of honey, lychee and light citrus dominate. The palate structure is tight and linear with a clean, crisp and long finish.

A refreshing departure from the ‘normal’ style of this variety, this is a fresh and lively Viognier. It continues to evolve into a more-interesting and more-thoughtful wine the longer it spends in the bottle.
