Description

White peach, mandarin orange and apricot are delivered with a core of minerality that makes the wine shimmer with energy and freshness. Another epic vintage of Kung Fu Girl. This is an über-aromatic wine, with appealing notes of white peach, jasmine, honeysuckle and lime. It’s lean in style, drinking off dry but balanced by racy acidity that stretches out the finish.

Planted in 1998 by Jerry Milbrandt, the vineyard rows lie along a stretch of steep cliffs above the Columbia River in the state’s newest AVA, Ancient Lakes. A cooler site due to river influence, the nitrogen-poor soils are composed of fragmented basalt, gravel silt, and caliche deposited during ice age floods. This site produces fruit with sublime mineral character and great acidity, a balance that winemakers adore. The vineyards they work with are farmed using the most up-to-date sustainable practices.

2016 continued the trend of warm growing seasons in Washington marked by an early start. Bud break and bloom were significantly advanced from historical dates, with bloom occurring in some areas as early as the third week of May, a good two-plus weeks ahead of average. By the end of May, 2016 was easily on pace to surpass 2015 as the warmest vintage on record. To everyone’s surprise, beginning in June, temperatures swung back toward normal. “As we all know, weather is very unpredictable and we did not see the cool second half coming,” said one winemaker. These cooler temperatures persisted throughout the majority of the summer.

Food Pairing: Match this Riesling with a rich Roast Pork with gravy & roasted Kumara & Pumpkin.
