James Halliday's Wine Companion

Description

98 Points - James Halliday "The 22nd release of Meshach celebrates the great '12 Barossa Valley vintage. The colour is still deep crimson-purple, setting the pattern for the bouquet and palate to follow. A wine of the highest quality in the Olympian class of Barossa Valley shiraz, seamless, calmly powerful and perfectly balanced. Black fruits dominate, but this is no one-dimensional power play, with hints of licorice, bitter chocolate and graphite. The tannins and oak contributions are perfectly placed and paced."

The 2012 Meshach is a very complex wine, with red colour and purple hints. The aromas are a combination of plum, mulberries, dark chocolate, accompanied by cocoa powder and cinnamon cake. The palate is textural and richly flavoured, where dark chocolate, riper red berries are complemented by spices and earthly characters. The supple yet structured tannins create a powerful foundation to give the wine exceptional length and structure.

The fruit for this iconic wine is handpicked from near century-old vines. Smaller parcels are also sourced from even older premium vines in the Barossa to add further complexity to the wine. There is a portion that comes from younger vines in different subregions in the Barossa that have amazing flavour and colour profiles. The aged vines produce fruit with tremendous concentration and intensity that make Meshach powerful, yet beautifully balanced.

Grant Burge Wines is located in the heart of South Australia's celebrated Barossa Valley. These classic Barossa wines are recognised all over the world for their consistent quality as a result of being crafted from the finest Barossa fruit and passionate hands-on winemaking.
