Description

  • Dark fruit
  • Mocha & chocolate
  • Rich savoury undertones
  • Chalky tannins

"Made by Norrel Robertson MW. Soft, silken-textured garnacha that is very approachable now with appealing plum, coffee, vanilla and chocolate/mocha characters. High alcohol (15% ) adds a little warmth but it does contribute to the wine's slipperiness. A good value red with character" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Oct 2018

"A splendid attached of dark fruits on the nose together with seductive aromas of game, roasted beet, cedar and truffle. The palate is concentrated and expansive, exhibiting sweet berry flavours as well as rich savoury undertones, wonderfully complemented by fine texture and chalky tannins, finishing impressively long and classically firm. This is seamless and delicious with awesome complexity. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jul 2018

"If you like your wines big, bold and full of flavour then look no further! Opulent, perfumed nose with nuances of violets. Ripe, juicy palate complemented by silky tannins. This wine comes from the collaboration of World class winemakers and local knowledge to produce a fruit driven wine typical of the Calatayud area, which encapsulates all the ruggedness concentration and character of the old vine fruit" International Wine Challenge

In the words of Sarah Jane Evans MW in Decanter Magazine “Norrel Robertson, Master of Wine has spent years seeking out the best expression of high-altitude old vineyards and making wines of great character.”  Here he selects vines with an average age of over 35 years that are grown on chalk and clay soils at an altitude of 600-900m. The combination of free draining soils, minimal rainfall and unique microclimate all add to the excellent colour and distinctive aromas and flavours. The grapes are hand harvested, crushed and destemmed. Temperature controlled fermentation takes place at 28°C for 7 days followed by a short maceration. 15% of the wine is matured in American and French oak for 4 months before bottling.
